Discussing Questions And Answers About Dog Food

Charles asks…

My cat eats mainly dog food?

My cat doesn’t always eat her cat food, but she’ll try and eat our dog‘s food… We started giving her a little bit of wet dog food every day instead of cat food and she seems to be doing fine. Is it okay to do this? And is this normal for a cat to want dog food more than cat food?
Also, the main reason we started feeding her the wet dog food is because she was practically dying cause she wouldn’t eat. Every once in a while we give her a little ham or turkey, but she won’t eat the cat food most of the time.

Jimmy answers:

Dog food and cat food are formulated differently to what the specific species need. Try a different kind of cat food. If she has been eating wet dog food, ease the cat into eating wet CAT food. Different brands can also be an issue. My sisters cat started eating dog food because she bought her really cheap cat food. Once I gave her the better cat food like purina, science diet, etc she tore it up.

Also, some cats are picky. I had a cat that would only eat pate wet cat food (the really soft stuff) but wouldn’t eat dry cat food or the one with chunks in eat. However, her eating anything is better than nothing. At least your trying

Betty asks…

Would you recomend Bil-Jac dog food?

I went to pet smart like a couple hours ago, and there was a bil-jac representative giving out samples of they’re food. I gave my 1yr old chihuahua some of the food and she was hooked. My dog has never eaten dry dog food. I bought her pedigree, purina puppy chow, and many more dog food brands, but she absolutely hates them, but with Bil Jac she is hooked. She finally eats it and has left chicken, and beef behind. I was doing some research and it said it wasn’t healthy because it contained corn. I love my dog, and I want nothing but the best for her. Please help?

Jimmy answers:

Dog food is a huge debate. It also depends on the dog. If your dog likes it and is healthy fine.

I own way too many dogs. I have tried all the high quality expensive stuff. Only to find it was a waste of my money.

Bil-Jac is not the best but it’s not the worst. People say Ol’Roy is bad. But if they read the Ol’Roy Lamb and Rice ingredients. There are no by products or corn in that food.

Dogs are not gonna fall over dead from eating Bil-Jac or any other brand.

With the way things are today. I am not gonna go broke over feeding my dogs, trying this food or that. $50 for a bag of Innova I don’t think so. I do love them but Ol’Roy and Pedigree is not gonna hurt them.

My dogs actually look better on those foods. Their poo is better and less. Their coats look great.

It’s personal choice.

Laura asks…

kittens eating dog food?

I have 2 kittens that are 4 mo. Thay will try to eat my dogs food. is this ok or will the food hurt them.

Jimmy answers:

Dog food was not intended to be fed to cats, as dogs and cats have very different nutritional requirements. Dog food isn’t high enough in protein or fat to meet a cat’s needs, and it doesn’t contain taurine, an essential nutrient for cats. It won’t hurt the kittens, but it will fill them up to the point that they won’t eat their own food. The dogs and cats need to be fed separately, so that they eat their own food.
