Could we sell homemade dog food?
We make about 50% of our dog food – to save money, improve nutrition, etc. We have always toyed with the idea of selling our homemade dog food. Now that we have a bit more free time and the farmer’s markets are opening, we are honestly considering it.
I’m wondering specifically about the legal issues. Doesn’t the FDA regulate dog food? So, would we need some kind of license or food analysis? I’m sure that if we just sold some jars around town, there would be no repercussions.
However, what are the rules about selling dog food? Even just a link would be great.
Your local health administration can best inform you of this. But it is a very good idea. The concerns of bateria levels in animals are not the same as for humans.
The guidlines are not as stringent, so check with your State Health department.
4,5,6 star premium dog food in UK?
The dog food analysis web site has a range of high quality dry dog food are any sold in the UK if so where can I purchase them.
That site has some strange ideas & classifications.
For example they downgrade single protein source foods when anyone with any sense knows you can buy two different flavours & mix them to give the optimum blend for any particular dog. At least with single sources you can avoid potential problems.
Of course some producers are label watching to fit into these artificial categories. Read the ingredients on some of the 4* & higher rated foods – I wouldn’t consider them premium.
In the UK try Burns, Skinners, Arden Grange, James Welbeloved or Wafcol.
You won’t find these in a supermarket and most pet superstores are geared towards selling mass market brands but you can google the manufacturers & find stockists that way.
Good brand of dog food for my pup?
kirkland signature brands, dog food analysis gives them a 3 star and they are the same price as big name brands like pedigree, any thoughts?
I agree that my dog deserves 5 star food and I also feed Orijen it’s the very best in my opinion. My dog also loves her occasional Taste of the Wild canned food and Nature’s Variety Instinct canned.
