Discussing Questions And Answers About Dog Food Sauce

Betty asks…

How do I get my 2YO Affenpinscher to eat.?

We just rescued a 2YO Female Affen. She will NOT eat dog food, only our food. She does not beg, but sits quietly to watch us eat and then runs to her bowl. The Vet suggested different foods, but so far they are just a waste of our money. She is truly a sweet dog and we are having difficulty not giving in to the sad eyes (OK, I am having difficulties – my husband and sons are fine).

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Jimmy answers:

She will eat when she is hungry. Perhaps she won’t eat as much as you think she should but she may not be that active either. She will not live nearly as long if you continue to feed her human food. Human food is not good for them–dog food is specially formulated to meet their needs. If it makes you feel better, consider putting a sauce or gravy on her food. Maybe a scoop of non-fat cottage cheese/yogurt which is good for their digestion. But stand firm, be kind and stop with the human food.

John asks…

Jimmy answers:

Make a stew with Ground Turkey, Brown Rice or Whole Wheat Pasta, Carrots, Broccoli, Green Beans, Zucchini, Yams, or whatever Vegetables you have on hand. I also use boneless Chicken or Hamburger, whatever is on sale. If you use Ground Meat, brown it in some Olive Oil, then in a big soup pot add water, the meat and cut up Veggies, cook until tender, then bring to hard boil, and add Pasta or Rice or Oatmeal, Barley.cover then turn off stove, the pasta, rice etc. Will absorb the hot liquid and cook in about 30 – 45 mins. I will add eggs to the stew right before covering it and they cook up w/ the Pasta. I also use Mustard, Collard, or Turnip Greens, Beets, Cauliflower, all Vegetables are good NO ONIONS, though!! I also add a little Garlic Powder & Italian Spices for flavor.Whole Wheat or Vegetable Egg Noodles, or elbow Noodles work out well also. I just mix it up depending on what I have on hand in the kitchen. I have been cooking for my dogs for about 6 years now, and they love it & are very Healthy!! I also make Turkey Meatloaf, make it just like you would for yourself, but i use Oatmeal, grated Carrot & Zucchini, Eggs and a little splash of Soy Sauce bake in oven, big hit with the dogs. Store all leftovers in air tight containers in fridge, and then re-heat and serve. Hope this helps.

James asks…

What kind of dog food/sauces can I make in my blender?

Im thinking of making some gravy-sauce type of thing i can pour over his food.
I recently got a Magic Bullet and am trying to find all reasons to use it :D

Jimmy answers:

Mix together wet dog food with ground beef (uncooked), an egg, and any other raw meat you can find and blend it until liquid. Pour over his dog food and you’re done :)
Just remember, you’ll feed less of his normal food if you use the sauce or he could start to get fat.
