Discussing Questions And Answers About Dog Food Storage

Richard asks…

60 qt container would hold how many pounds of dog food?

found this little storage on wheels, it says “comes in 60 qt size perfect for dog food” how many pounds of dog food will it hold?

Jimmy answers:

Depends on dog food.

Wet one is likely close in density to water, so it will be around 120lbs

density of dry food depends on what’s in it and chunk size, so just get a quart of it and weigh it (there are free accurate scales as post offices).

Lizzie asks…

is PVC- food storage safe?

Is it safe to store food [ dog food] in # 2 five gallon PVC buckett. Is ther any posibilety of chemical contamination. I am also aware of the fact that many workers in the vinal chloride industry were stricken with cancer before proper safty and handling prosiedures were put in place.

Jimmy answers:

PVC is a very stable and inert polymer which is non-biodegradable.. It will not contaminate any contents at normal temperature.

PVC is not a carcinogen. But it could very well be that the intermediate compounds used could be so.

James asks…

Where/ how do you store your dog food?

I buy 30lb bags, but I’m having a hard time finding a good storage solution. I have a small house, with little hidden storage (no ready closet, etc. to stash the bag). I’m thinking of getting a med. trash can to empty the food into, or a storage bin.

I’m just curious what you all do, so I can glean out something that might work for me!

Jimmy answers:

I have a storage bin. We used to use a garbage can.

Definition of a dog fancier – someone who has their dog food in a garbage can, and their garbage in dog food bags.
