Discussing Questions And Answers About Dog Food With Turkey And Sweet Potatoes

Carol asks…

My dog has on and off diarrhea?

I have a 4 month old husky male and he’s a great active puppy. But his stool everytime is different. the longer he waits the harder the stool is, but sometimes he’s got liquid diarrhea. he’s has no worms, but i don’t know if i should even be worried. he’s on only dog food and its acana for large puppies mixed with a higher grain food just to help solidify his stools. should i be worried?

Jimmy answers:

If the problem continues put your pup on rice and chicken for a few days. This is excellent diet food and recommended by vets to settle dogs’ stomachs. I just got a new puppy myself and he’s having diarrhoea every time I give him dry food (although that’s what he was getting from the breeder and he was fine with it in the beginning). I’m now cooking food for him using meat (chicken, lamb, beef, pork, turkey…), carbs (rice, potatoes, oats, …) and vegetables (carrots, peas, sweet potato, zucchini, beans, …) with about one third of each. I also add yoghurt for calcium and cod liver oil for fur and skin and his poo is solid. I talked to my vet about it and he said it may be a temporary thing (remember your pup is still growing and his body is changing almost on a daily basis) or it may be due to an intolerance to either this particular dog food (allergy) or a general intolerance to wheat and other grains used in making dog food. However, he is doing well on freshly prepared food.
You can also try different brands of food and see whether another type suits your dog better. Make sure there are no other signs of illness, i.e. Loss of energy, loss of appetite, dry and cracked nose, fever or dehydration. To check for dehydration press down on your dog’s gums with one finger. When you let go the area should have turned white but should quickly return to pink, otherwise it means your pup is dehydrated.
Hope it all goes well.

Lisa asks…

Can I feed my 8 month old chihuahua a raw diet?

My chihuahua puppy has been a picky eater since I got him. I tried him on blue buffalo but he didn’t like that, so some one said that switching to raw was cheaper and healthier but difficult. I would really like to switch but I don’t know the first thing about it, can some one please help me learn the basics?

Jimmy answers:

Best food is Chicken, turkey beef and eggs
Boil them let it cool and feed

You can add veggies, fruits and nuts too but not to much

like broccoli, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, ginger( that is good if it has stomach pains), watermelon and unsalted peanuts,Non-flavored yogurt is good for stomach too

you can add just a little bit of olive oil.

You can give it some meaty baby food (My Chihuahua loves it)

Things to never feed dogs

raisins, grapes, fish, food with iron, nutmeg, bones, macadamias, mushrooms, onions, avocados, peaches, plums, sugared foods, yeast, pistachios, cranberries, almonds.
