Discussing Questions And Answers About Dog Food With Turkey And Sweet Potatoes

Charles asks…

Feeding my puppy people food?

She eats our regular puppy food, but sometimes we like giving her leftovers. Maybe chicken and whatnot. Is that harmful to her? She’s a terrier mix.

And are there any fruits and vegetables that are good for the puppy to eat?

Jimmy answers:

It is perfectly fine to feed a puppy/dog “people” food. As long as the food isn’t highly processed, spiced, salted, doesn’t contain onions, grapes, raisins, coffee, chocolate..

Some great People foods to give:
chicken, turkey, hamburger, beef, pork (yes pork is fine in moderation but don’t give ham or leftover chinese pork),watermelon, apples, pear, green beans, carrots, sweet potato, squash, pumpkin, cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, cheese, rice cakes, cereals such as cheeros, kix..slices of hot dog, liver, heart, gizzard,

They are a great treat for your dog and very much appreciated.

Daniel asks…

Which dog food is best?

Tell me which food is best out of the ones listed below, and which is the worst- (if you could put them in order from best to worst, that would be great)

Food #1:
Bison, lamb meal, chicken meal, egg product, sweet potatoes, peas, potatoes, canola oil, roasted bison, roasted venison

Food #2:
Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Tomato Pomace, Rye Flour, Canola Oil, Tomatoes, Rice Bran

Food #3:
Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whole Ground Brown Rice, Whole Ground Barley, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat, Rye, Tomato Pomace, Menhaden Fish Meal, Natural Chicken Flavor

Food #4:
Turkey, chicken, chicken meal, barley, brown rice, potato, rice, chicken fat, pea fiber, natural flavors

Also, what do you think is the best brand of dog food?
I am not interested in feeding raw food either, so don’t suggest that
everybody is suggesting horrible brands! I didn’t ask what crappy brand you feed your dogs, I wanted to know what the BEST brand is!
Please answer the question!

Jimmy answers:

Best to Worst:
1 Best: Food #1 (lots of meat, no grains)
2 Food #4 (First 3 ingredients meat)
3 Food #3
4. Food #2 (I put this one last because it seems to be more grain based than the others)

If you’re debating which of these brands to buy, there’s more things I take into consideration than just the ingredients. I find it’s important that a good food also has a promise on the bag that their food is chemical, preservative, and artificial coloring/flavoring free. If they mention their ingredients are human grade, that’s great, too. I also will only buy foods that are manufactured in the USA, since foods made in China are prone to recalls.

We feed our dog Wellness, but I also think Orijen, California Natural, and Solid Gold are very good foods as well.
