Discussing Questions And Answers About Iams Dog Food Sauce

Lizzie asks…

Puppy eating baby food?

I have a 3 month old puppy that is perfectly healthy but doesnt understand how to eat a MEAL! the breeder just let the puppies graze the whole time but I have other animals that would eat all the puppy’s food if he grazed. My vet always recommends chicken turkey or beef baby food. The puppy loves it and eats EVERY kibble we give him now. I read about people who dont agree with giving dogs baby food because of the ingredients but Beech Nut baby food its pure chicken, etc. Am i able to give him any other flavors such as peas, squash, sweet potatoes, fruits? He doesnt need baby food it for any health reason, just to help him eat an entire meal.

Jimmy answers:

Gerber has also stopped putting garlic and onion powders in their baby food. The added garlic and onion are the real health concern.

Dogs should not eat human foods like chocolate, moldy cheese, grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic – which are not normally in baby food. Also, baby foods are generally low-sodium because human babies can’t tolerate salt well either. So there should be nothing wrong with feeding him other baby foods – most of the forbidden human foods usually aren’t in baby food anyways. Just check the label first.

If he will eat his kibble with a fruit or veggie puree instead of meat, that’s going to be healthier for him – it’s lower in calories than meat. But if he’s very picky, he may not like it as much. And you don’t want to give him a lot – baby food falls into the category of treats, which should never be more than 10% of his diet.

Eventually I’d recommend weaning him off of the baby food and hoping that he’s learned to eat at mealtimes like everyone else. You can try shutting doors between fast eaters and slow eaters so no-one else steals his food. And if you pick up all the food and put it away 20 minutes after a meal begins, eventually he will figure out that the food goes away if he doesn’t eat.

I also have an alternate suggestion. Iams Savory Sauce is like a flavor gravy made for dogs to make their dry food tastier. It’s much lower in calories than baby food, and probably cheaper. It’s available at many pet stores.

John asks…

How much should my 3 month old puppy Dalmation eat per day?

We jusgot t our puppy yesterday. I think he may be homesick and may miss his brothers and sisters.. and doesnt have much of an appetite. He eats a little… but how much should he be eating per day? He seems to be drinking a lot which is good. Any suggestions? Also we are feeding him very good healthy dog food that is pretty expensive.
Haha.. i didnt think about looking on the back of the bag. Stupid me!! Also…. I know this may sound silly… but i think my puppy is afriad of his bowl. He also seems to jump away from it when he gets close to the bowl.

Jimmy answers:

The bag should tell you how much he should be eating per day according to his breed or by how much he should weigh at maturity. The vet always suggests wetting the food a little when they are puppies to make it easier for them to chew, sometimes dog don’t want to eat when it is too hard for them to. If that doesn’t work, try some Iams Savory Sauce for Puppies. It adds texture to the food, and also makes it tastes better, comes in Chicken, Beef, or Bacon flavor.
