Discussing Questions And Answers About Lymphoma Dog Foods

Laura asks…

My dog was just diagnosed with Lymphoma, what can I feed her?

She really doesn’t want to eat much of anything. She still eats her dog food, but not a lot. She won’t eat chicken. She still eats a lot of cheese though, she loves the stuff. What other foods would be safe to try? I’ve tried eggs, but she never really liked them much anyways…Please help? It’s been really hard.
Thank you.

Jimmy answers:

I am so sorry! If she’s eating a bit, that’s good. Maybe you can encourage her to eat more of the kibble, by mixing in some grated cheese, or some low-sodium beef broth (if she likes beef). Its also really important that she stays hydrated, so if she doesn’t seem too keen on her water dish, you could put a teaspoon of gatorade in the water to make it more appealing, or give her ice cubes periodically to lick. Some other things to try that she might like would be fish (my dog loves baked cod, tuna, salmon), raw veggies like bell peppers, beans, and carrots. You could cut up bits of fruit, like apples, oranges, bananas, or blueberries (although this last one can get messy), and mix those in with her kibble, or use them as treats. Does she like canned food? You could even get a high quality canned food, add some kibble, and put it all in a blender.

Linda asks…

My dog has lymphoma is there anything i can try to do?

I am trying to give her turmeric everyday with wet dog food some have suggested that dry dog food may be carcinogenic. She is fourteen so I know she is older but we would like to save her if anyone has any ideas.

Jimmy answers:

Her life expectancy is four to six weeks, so I would start thinking how and when to say goodbye to her. Fourteen is a good age for any dog.

Sandra asks…

What dog food brand will increase my pets’ lives ?

I was checking online and i found some person telling not to buy comercial dog food cuzz its made out of dead dogs n’ stuff and it killed his dog at 4 years old but he said there was one commercial brand that was good. But then he started promoting his book and i couldn’t find it. My last dog (lab) died at 7 years old of lymphoma. I fed her Iams. I have 2 new pups now and I feed them Iams. What should I do ?

Jimmy answers:

I have researched this in depth since my poor dog died of kidney failure due to poor quality dog food!!
Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats …http://www.frommfamily.com/ $42- $45 per 30 lb bag
NO fillers….some good quality grains….NO corn….gluten or by-products or wheat
ALL human grade food….fruits…veggies and probiotics!!
Check it out you wont regret it !

Http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/TOTW has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs)
Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product)
around $42 for a 30 lb bag …. Its the cheapest 6 star food ..

Http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ lots of great dog food choices on this site !!

Orijen and Welness are great but it is $60 – $80 for a 30 lb bag…high protein as well ..not good for non athletic dogs
Fromm Is what my puppy gets it has a lower protein % and great ingredients! 5 outta 6 stars due to lower protein (but most dogs should not have high protein levels …. It makes their kidneys work overtime for no reason)
You can get it online and if you go to the website you can find stores near you .. They wont be at walmarts and the like… They are in feed stores .. Agway..tractor supply stores etc

IF your dog is not going to be a hard working/agility dog all this high protein can do more harm than good in the long run,,, you wont notice it now but it can take its toll on a dogs kidneys as it ages.

There is also a brand called 4health at the tractor supply store.. It is only $30 for a 30 lb bag.. And it seems to be of good quality. (not as good as the foods mentioned above but it good for the price if you are on a tight budget.)

also of you go to http://www.tractorsupply.com you can get a printable $5 off coupon!!
They have tons of low and high end foods there
