Discussing Questions And Answers About Recipe For Dog Food

Nancy asks…

Does anyone know of a good home made recipe for dog food to give my pit bull?

I just wanted to see if there are any recipes out there that would be nutritiouss for my Pit Bull, I have hereating Iams currently, just seeing different possiblities.

Jimmy answers:

Raw (or BARF) is probably the healthiest thing you can feed your dog regardless of breed.
Many people use a recipe for something called Satin-balls but I don’t know if they are good to use as a main diet, I think they’re more or less a nutritious treat.

You could try checking out this forum that I moderate on, it’s a fountain of knowledge and information, and there’s even a specific section to post about Health & Nutritional Care.

Hope this helps!

Mandy asks…

What is an exact recipe for making dog food?

I have found out that alot of the commercial brands are not the best and I tried to switch but he doesn’t seem to like any of the ones that are made good so I have decided to make his food for him but I need a recipe. I know it’s 40%protein 30%???? and 30% something else but I have no idea. I would not know what would make 40% so an exact recipe would be GREAT.
I need to know more than just what to give for protein I need the whole recipe

That is an exact recipe. If you go back to the menu before it, there is even a 7 day menu for your dog.

The whole thing is great if you have time, but I prefer to feed all natural kibble food……it’s raw food in kibble form–almost as good. I use Flint River but there are lots of other brands like Innova.

Charles asks…

Purina One vs. Natures Recipe Dog food?

I was wondering what dog food is better. Like how good the ingredients are and for the price.
Thanks

Jimmy answers:

Looking at ingredients…..

Purina ONE (Chicken variety): Chicken, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, poultry by-product meal

Chicken as #1 ingredient is good, but followed by 2 corn ingredients and by-product meal…..not good.

Nature’s Recipe (Lamb variety): Lamb meal, cracked pearled barley, oatmeal, ground rice

Therefore……..

Nature’s Recipe is the winner when it comes to ”which is better”.
